Split tunnelling (vpn is on but only for specific apps) is extremely hard (idk if it’s even possible without some sort of a jailbreak) on iOS. So either all of your apps use VPN or none do, making it pretty much pointless, vpns can cause problems in some apps like banking apps. So much for muh privacy.
You can’t do anything properly on iOS
There are multiple ways to conditionally apply VPNs, the enterprise solution is MDM, but VPN apps can also let you select when they are applicable, as an app dev of a VPN/Network sys exs we know the bundle ID of the app that created each network connection so can provide options to users to expliclty not tunnel given apps if we want to offer this feature.
great if you want to do banking turn off the vpn, if you want to watch netflix turn it back on
A month ago, I bought a new Apple Watch, and it told me I had to “upgrade” my iPhone to iOS 18 before I can pair the watch ?! Users should never be forced to upgrade to a beta OS!
For weeks I’ve been having trouble with my internet and WIFI connection and only figured it out a couple days ago. I had CloudFlare’s 1.1.1.1 “Warp” VPN enabled on my phone for years but iOS 18 broke it. Also, when you slide to disable the VPN iOS 18 will automatically re-enable it minutes later! This made it every difficult for me to troubleshoot the issue. I had to delete the VPN in order to get my phone working again…
IOS 18 is a POS. Feels like a rushed product that was not ready. Apple is taking pages from the Boeing strategy.
You can do split tunelling and per-app using MDM profiles for sure. Not sure about options without, maybe via Apple Configurator?
Depends. I am found good vpn for my Iphone 11 pro but sadly can’t for IPad 9 while.
Does anyone else have this issue where sometimes when you turn off VPN through control center and not through the VPN app it just turns itself back on ad nauseam? Apple sucks
Not 100% ideal because you need 2 automations per app. But its doable without having any corporate MDM solutions.
Here’s how below. As you can see I’m switching in and out of netflix and the VPN is disconnecting and reconnecting on the fly. You can hide the annoying notification and make the automation run in the background. I just kept it on for demo purposes
I use a VPN but not all the time. That will just drain my battery life. I’ll turn it on for anything sensitive that’s not a banking app.
Split tunneling works perfectly on stock iOS. I have it set up so iTransmission (torrent app) goes through von but nothing else. Works perfectly 100% of the time with zero leaks.
Your problem is caused by user error.
People speak with such ill-found confidence when posting here
i have split tunnel vpn on ios
ignorance is the new god
VPNs do nothing for privacy (often are actually worse for it). Any app or website you use is already encrypted through HTTPS
It’s completely unnecessary
Op can’t use VPNs properly
I mean… you can turn off the VPN… that’s what I do
But think about it, why do you need split tunnelling? What’s the point?
The apps don’t provide this feature because 99.9% of the user base doesn’t need it. For genuine solutions as it was said there are MDM profiles
Wdym? iOS is the perfect platform to give Apple your money on. That’s exactly what it’s made for.
